Utsa | For those who colour outside the lines

Client:  Westside  |   2020   |  Film

Role:  Concept, Writing,  Film Direction

For the launch of Westside’s Utsa collection, the brief was to reimagine the kurta, often typecast as “uncool” and show it for what it truly is: one of the most versatile pieces in any woman’s wardrobe.

My second directorial venture, 'Make the Beat Count', brought this idea to life with colourful visuals, a peppy soundtrack, and five women who owned their space, whether on the golf course, behind the DJ console, or simply in their own confident skin. Each woman’s styling reflected her unique personality, and together they turned a simple kurta into a celebration of individuality.

The film was cinematic yet playful, moving from daylit outdoors to moody interiors, with outfits, styling, and props crafted around each character. More than a product launch, it was about shifting perception, showing that kurtas can be bold and modern.

For me, it was another high: seeing my writing and vision come to life on set, brought together by a special cast and the support of friends who made the shoot unforgettable.
